Florida State University Libraries seeks a highly motivated and collegial librarian for the position of Research Impact Librarian to join our Technology and Digital Scholarship division.

Responsibilities

  • This position will be responsible for developing and supporting services related to research impact measurement and bibliometrics for the FSU community. These services will include analysis and remediation of research impact data captured by various systems as well as outreach and education about best practices for collecting, managing, and analyzing this data.
  • This position will play an important role in advocating for ORCID adoption and the responsible use of research impact metrics on campus. The incumbent will collaborate closely with colleagues in the Libraries and a range of institutional partners on projects that advance FSU's strategic goals around enhancing research impact, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Work with colleges, departments, research centers and institutes, and others on best practices in working with bibliometric data and other impact measures and applying FAIR/CARE principles where appropriate.
  • Extract and analyze bibliometrics data in support of strategic requests from leadership.
  • Provide support and training to librarians, faculty, and staff in the effective use of bibliometric and research impact tools and software
  • Develop and maintain an awareness of the trends and issues in university level rankings, such as QS, THE, and ARWU
  • Work closely with software and data vendors to solve technical issues around bibliometric and other research impact measures
  • Investigate existing and emerging technologies that help strengthen the university's goals around communicating research impact
  • Advocate for the broader adoption and implementation of digital persistent identifiers for researchers across campus .


Qualifications

  • ALA-accredited Master's Degree or equivalent experience or degree in one or more fields relevant to the position.
  • Demonstrated experience with bibliometric data sources such as Web of Science, InCites, Scopus, SciVal, and Google Scholar.
  • Knowledge of basic and derivative bibliometrics (publication counts, citation counts, h-index, and other citation-based impact metrics.)
  • Knowledge of issues related to researcher identification and experience using researcher profiling systems (e.g., ORCID, Researcher ID, etc.)
  • Understanding of issues related to responsible research evaluation using bibliometric data.
  • Understanding of university research environments and ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.
  • Strong written and verbal skills for teaching, troubleshooting, and producing documentation and reports.
  • Ability to take initiative, create opportunities, and develop effective partnerships.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with statistical analysis methods associated with bibliometrics, including data management, manipulation, interpretation, and analysis skills.
  • Experience with planning and facilitating training's on using persistent identifiers (such as ORCID) and locating and analyzing bibliometric datasets.
  • Knowledge of and experience tagging Indigenous data with Traditional Knowledge Labels and/or Bicultural notices to indicate Indigenous interest.

Anticipated Salary Range

This position has a minimum starting salary of $57,000; commensurate with education and experience.
