Description

The Computer Systems Engineering Technology Department is searching for a full-time tenure-track appointment for our Portland-Metro Campus (Wilsonville, OR).

About the Position:
A qualified applicant should have a strong background in C++ as that is our department’s primary language. As a small department, faculty are expected to teach freshman through senior level classes. This individual would be expected to cover classes from some of the following areas, but not limited to: design patterns, software engineering methodologies, project management, Linux system programming, compilers, artificial intelligence, cyber security, or cloud computing. To be clear, we are not expecting one individual with all of these skill sets but these are the areas of specialty(ies).

The primary job duties for this position are teaching, advising, scholarship, research, and service. Scholarship may include but is not limited to the publication of scholarly works, collaboration with industrial partners, student-oriented applied research and internal/external grant writing. Institutional service may include advising, on-campus committee membership and participation in departmental initiatives.

Oregon Tech’s Computer Systems Engineering Technology Department is committed to inclusive thought and action in support of our diverse community. Individuals from historically underrepresented groups and all those who share our commitment to inclusivity and passion for the strength of our diversity are strongly encouraged to apply.

Departmental Information:
Computer Engineering Technology
Computer Engineering Technology graduates are involved in the development of hardware, software, and embedded applications that adapt digital logic and computer systems to solve problems in a wide range of industries, from industrial manufacturing to consumer electronics. In addition, they may be involved in product testing and qualification or in application engineering, customer support, sales, and public relations.

Embedded systems are proliferating in our modern society. On a daily basis, the typical person in the United States will interact with dozens of embedded systems. The Embedded Systems Engineering Technology program targets development of software to run these critical “unseen” systems, quickly becoming interwoven into the fabric of our digital society. Engineers with this knowledge are in high demand, and the demand curve is growing exponentially. Students will gain critical knowledge in an area of software engineering which exists directly on the hardware, providing low level operation and hardware abstraction to higher level software constructs.

Oregon Tech’s Software Engineering Technology program’s emphasis is on a combination of theory and application, not just theory. The applied, hands-on curriculum prepares students for entry into the computer professions. Students will develop solid Software Engineering skills throughout all phases of the curriculum. From Software Testing and Design Patterns classes in the sophomore year to Project Management and Software Quality Assurance concepts in the junior and senior years, these concepts are a crucial part of a Software Engineer’s skillset.
